Oral History Interviews
Since its founding in 1970, the Baylor University Institute for Oral History (BUIOH) has collected over 7,000 interviews. The Institute has created transcripts of almost all interviews in the collection, and nearly 4,500 of these transcripts are available to researchers and the public in our online collection as fully text-searchable PDFs. New transcripts of in-process projects are added monthly as work progresses.
'Sound Historian: Journal of the Texas Oral History Association'
Sound Historian: Journal of the Texas Oral History Association features articles on a broad array of topics that apply oral history methodology to scholarly research. In each article, eyewitness testimony presents new, fresh perspectives on the events, issues, or people of the past. In addition to exploring a variety of subjects, the articles also contribute to the discussion of the practice, theory, or application of oral history. Reviews of books that instruct in oral history methods or apply interview materials to historical research are included in Volume 2 and forward.
The Thomas N. Tegge Military Oral History Collection
This collection features over 250 video oral histories with US military veterans. These donated videos were edited and described for online access, which includes transcription and captioning text provided by OpenAI’s Whisper. While highly accurate, some of this text may include errors, especially when proper nouns are involved.
Wings Across America: Women Air Service Pilots (WASPs) of WWII
In 2024, the Wings Across America interviews became part of the permanent collections of the Institute for Oral History. Digitization work on these interviews is currently in progress, with batches of material uploaded to this digital collection upon completion of initial processing. The videos are edited and described for online access, which includes transcription and captioning text provided by OpenAI’s Whisper. While highly accurate, some of this text may include errors, especially when proper nouns are involved. In the coming years, research-ready interview transcripts produced by the Institute for Oral History will be added to the collection as well.
